Profile
Walchensee is one of the deepest and at the same time one of the largest alpine lakes in Germany. It is located 75 km south of Munich in the Bavarian Prealps, at 800 m above sea level.
The road on the south bank of the Walchensee is a toll road.
The picturesque places around the lake have retained their rural character, which is reflected in the wearing of the traditional costume as well as in the townscape. The places enchant with historical buildings like the Klösterl and the Margarethen-Kircherl on the Zwergern peninsula as well as with all the pretty Bavarian houses with the colorful flowers on the pretty, carved balconies. The rustic inns, hotels and cafés with their sun terraces and beer gardens, plus the lush meadows and pastures. The Walchensee is definitely worth a detour.
